When people are in need, it is quite natural for Uschi Glas (68) to help. She provides hungry children with food, takes care of suffering animals - and she desperately fights for the life of her friend Debra Jean Milke! Debbie is a mother who was sentenced to death under dubious circumstances in America. It's been over for over 20 years, but the case of today's 47-year-olds has not been forgotten. And as the NEW experienced, there is now reason for hope. Will Debbie be pardoned after 20 years? It would be the heart's desire of Uschi Glas .

Three judges of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco are Debbie's last hope. You can now, in the last resort, cancel the death sentence. "Every day we wait for the good news to come from America, " says Uschi Glas . "Even Debbie is combative, she is fine and she has the great hope that she is now released!" It would be the happy end of a nightmare .

But how did it happen? A court found Debbie, the daughter of a US soldier and German Renate Janka (66), guilty of ordering the murder of her four-year-old son Christopher. The evidence, however, was very poor: there were only contradictory testimonies of the also sentenced to death actual perpetrators and other inconsistencies. Without real evidence, the German-American was sentenced to death.

"A scandal, " says Uschi Glas, who is convinced of the innocence of her friend. She writes letters with Debbie's mother Renate Janka, collects funds and holds talks with politicians. A commitment that now seems to pay off, as Uschi Glas relates: "Three judges have once again highlighted the case of Debbie. All three came to the conclusion that there was no confession. These judges can now overturn the verdict. "THE NEW also reached Renate Janka. She confirms: "A decision is coming soon in any case!"

Everyone is praying that this will be positive. For a woman who spent nearly half of her life on death row - but never lost heart. Also thanks to the support of Uschi Glas.
