Urban Outfitters needs to remove image due to thigh gap

Anorexic or just slim?

How thin is normal and from when must labels for XS models be held accountable? This question is currently splitting after a warning against Urban Outfitters.

Fashion scandal noodle Urban Outfitters has made it into the headlines again: The label recently advertised with a rather thin model for underwear. And was promptly requested by the British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to remove the photo.

ASA, which acts as the Advertising Control Panel in the United Kingdom, received the notice from an anonymous source and found the image unsuitable. "We think the model is too thin, the gap between the thighs of the model is particularly large, her thighs and knees have the same width." said in a statement. The advertisement thus represents a danger for the young, easily influenced customers of the label.

Urban Outfitters exchanged the picture (see above), but does not see himself in debt. The model would have a waist of 60 centimeters and would be pretty thin by nature. Incidentally, the new photo does not make a lot of difference, after all, Urban Outfitters only advertises on its site with very slim models.

Dangerous is not so much the thigh gap of the models, but the fact that both Urban Outfitters and other labels promote a very one-sided beauty ideal. After all, women are of all sizes: big, small, narrow and curvy - and none of that should be a trend.
