Goodbye in the wild

After more than ten years, reborn gorillas re-encounter the people who raised them. The reaction when they realize it is incredible!

Damian Aspinall is an English entrepreneur and conservationist. The son of a zoo owner and animal rights activist, he was born into life surrounded by wild animals. With the Aspinall Foundation, a charity organization that works among other things for the release of animals from the zoo, Damian has been traveling for years as an animal rights activist.

Nevertheless, moments like this are special for the activist as well. Over ten years ago he gave the gorillas Djalta and Bimms life in freedom. The two were born in a wildlife park in Kent, where they grew up together with Damian Aspinall's daughter Tansy. Even as a baby, the girl and the gorillas were inseparable. Djalta and Bimms have always belonged to the family, the relationship between animal and human was unusually intimate. The farewell fell in 2003, when the day came when the gorillas in the West African state of Gabon were released. The Aspinall family leaves Gabon with a laughing and a crying eye. They can give Djalta and Bimms the freedom - at the same time they lose a part of their family.

After more than ten years, Damian Aspinall decides to pay a visit to the gorillas. At his side is his daughter Tansy. The animal rights activists start the journey to Gabon without any expectations. Whether they find Djalta and Bimms in the wild and furthermore the gorillas people actually recognize is uncertain.

On a river father and daughter start their search for their old family members. There is no sign of the gorillas. But after a few calls Aspinall the unbelievable happens: The re-released Gorillas respond after more than ten years to his voice. One may think that people are now foreign to them, but Djalta and Bimms recognize their foster father immediately.

Even the doubts to meet again with the now grown Tansy remain unfounded. Gorillas and humans are in each other's arms, the reunion ensures goose bumps. Even after years in the wild, the gorillas remember their family.
