Ideal for those who do not want to paint their nails every two or three days: a varnish that promises a "flawless result" for a week or more. Well, if that's true ... In the test: make gel nail polish itself . Our conclusion is here.

In the test: the "Striplac Mobile Set" by Alessandro

Beauty boss Marion (35): "The paint is more likely to out than it breaks."

The set includes under or over paint, cleaning pads and UV lamp. Paint (17 euros) and remover varnish (8 euros) you have to buy extra. First, I degrease the nails with the cleaning pads. Then a thin layer of viscous base coat comes on it and must harden for 60 seconds under the lamp. Attention: On the nails a sticky film remains, which I have to wipe off with the pads. Then follows: color coat, cure under the lamp, second layer color, cure, overcoat, cure. Elaborate, but: my high-gloss nails are immediately scratch-resistant, only seem a bit artificial. And: The paint keeps great, but I grew out too far after seven days. So I'm popping remover, let it work for five minutes and pull off the paint in one piece. Works fine.

The removable: "Striplac Mobile Set", about 85 euros and "Striplac Berry Red", about 17 euros, all from Alessandro .

  • Duration: 10 minutes.
  • Handling: uncomplicated.
  • Shelf life: min. 7 days.
  • Removal: with special "Peel-off Activator".
  • Damage: slightly rough nails.

In the test: gel nail polish from Isadora

Editor Franziska Bruchhagen: "On the seventh day, only the tips are easily triggered."

This gel nail polish works like normal nail polish - without a curing light. I first apply the paint in two layers. Because the brush is wide and the varnish is creamy, it works fast and without fuzziness. After each situation, the nails must air dry for three minutes. Last comes over paint on it. The is a bit tough and is also applied in two layers - but without a break. However, this does not work quite thin, so my nails look a bit "higher" after another three minutes than they did after normal paint. But I already had "real" gel nails and they are much thicker. The result lasts six days, only then the tips repel slowly. On the seventh day I remove the paint - with normal remover and pads.

The uncomplicated: "Gel Nail Lacquer Topcoat" and color "No. 223" from Isadora, each about 11 euros. Exclusive to Douglas.

  • Duration: 10 minutes.
  • Handling: very easy.
  • Shelf life: 6 days.
  • Remove: with normal remover.
  • Nail damage: none.

In the test: gel lacquer and LED lamp from Essence

Journalist student Jara Tiedemann: "After a week, the paint on the tips chipped off."

A minus point in advance: gel-lacquer, LED-lamp and cleaning lotion are not there as a set, you have to buy everything individually. And now the big plus: The accessory works with any of my paints. First, I plug the lamp via USB to the computer. Let's go: I degrease the nails with cleansing lotion. Then I apply a thin layer of gel. That's not easy, it's as tough as glue (and it smells like that). 10 seconds it must then harden under the lamp. Each finger must be individually under it, that lasts - 10 minutes. After that comes paint on it, which I leave, as usual, to dry in the air and seal with another gel layer. The paint shines more beautiful than usual, but splits despite the great effort on day four. To remove it you simply pull it off.

The adaptation artist : "Primer & Cleanser", "Gel Base & Topcoat" and "Mini LED Lamp", from Essence, a total of about 26 euros.

  • Duration: 20 minutes.
  • Handling: elaborate.
  • Shelf life: 4 days.
  • Odor: adhesive.
  • Remove: simply peel off.
  • Nail damage: none.

In the test: "Private Nail Studio" by Anny

Trainee Marie Nitsche: "At the nude tone the quirks are hardly noticeable on the 7th day."

I pulled the test jackpot: a suitcase full of manicure products - great for beauty junkies like me! LED lamp, file, cuticle strips, remover strips ... even a 5-minute tutorial DVD is included. Well done, I start: Degrease nails, brush base coat, let it cure for 30 seconds under the LED lamp. Then I apply the color coat with the nude sound (you can choose the nuance contained). Since the paint is thin liquid, it does not look so gel-like on the nails - for that I need three layers, until it covers. Each layer, including the top coat, has to cure for 30 seconds under the lamp. After 10 minutes I'm done. On the 5th day the paint splinters slightly on the nail tips. After a week, I stick the remover strips on the nails, let the remover 15 minutes (!) Retract and then wipe the paint with it.

The all-round package: "Private Nail Studio LED Starter Kit" by Anny, about 150 euros.

  • Duration: 15 minutes.
  • Handling: rather demanding.
  • Shelf life: about 5 days.
  • Removal: only with special remover and adhesive tape.
  • Nail damage: none.
