Small lamp, big effect

Would you have thought that you can make a cool lamp out of a tin can? No? We convince you with this guide from the opposite!

You need this for the lamp:

  • Tin cans (425 ml content)
  • security can opener
  • Wallpaper (Vivid, mint, 72 €, www.fermliving.com)
  • double-sided adhesive tape
  • Forstner bit 28 mm
  • jigsaw
  • 2 pine strips square (10 x 10 mm x 50 cm, 1.59 €, www.idee-shop.com)
  • bucksaw
  • Lamp cable with plug and socket
  • E 14 (DIY store)
  • Light bulb E 14
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • Cutter with cutting pad
  • Cordless Screwdriver
  • small screws

And that's how easy it is:

1. Open cans with a safety can opener, empty and clean.

2. Cut a strip of wallpaper and glue it with double-sided tape around the can.

3. Mark a hole in the middle for the socket on the floor and drill with a suitable Forstner drill or jigsaw (about 28 mm).

4. Cut the pine strip into 5 parts: 2 x 13.5 cm, 2 x 9 cm, 1 x 7.3 cm (corresponds to the diameter of the can).

5. Pre-drill a small hole in the can wall at a distance of 2.5 cm from the bottom, perpendicular to each side.

6. Saw off the two shorter wooden strips slightly obliquely at one end (angle of approx. 18 degrees). At the other end drill a hole through each side for screwing to the box.

7. Do the same with the two longer parts, but pierce a hole at the bevelled end from the top.

8. Place the single, short strip between the two longer strips at the straight ends and screw them with small screws at the side.

9. Place the short, beveled strips on the longer strips and screw them from below.

10. Now screw the lamp holder to the side of the socket.

11. Insert the lamp holder through the hole from below and screw the threaded ring onto the socket from the inside.

12. Screw a small bulb E 14 into the socket.
