The 11-year-old Mama Marlar herself was born in Cologne - at that time the first elephant cub ever born in Cologne. The r (h) a Cologne born on Monday, March 20, 2017, a son: Moma (named after the ARD program "Morgenmagazin", which serves the baby as a godfather). The 15-member elephant herd lives in Cologne without direct contact with the carers on 20, 000 square meters. The new offspring has received the herd lovingly.

Moma already weighs 100 kilograms - which is the perfect average for an elephant baby. Once Moma is fully grown, he can weigh up to 5, 000 kilos . Since the 100 kilos are much easier to find.

Now there are three elephant children in the Cologne Zoo: Mom's half-brother Jung Bul Kne, who was born at the end of January, and the one-year La Min Kyaw.

But soon two more half-brothers will join in: Two elephant cows in the Cologne Zoo are also pregnant. The father of all babies is the breeding bull Sang Raja.

Asian elephants are pregnant for about 22 months before their babies are born. Will the Cologne Zoo open an elephant daycare?

And here again in a double pack. On March 16, the little elephant bull La Min Kyaw became one year old.
