Has cult director Sofia Coppola landed a new deal? After her successes with "The Virgin Suicides", "Lost in Translation" and "The Bling Ring" she could now try on a remake of "Arielle, the little mermaid" .
Currently, the daughter of Francis Ford Coppola is in negotiation with Universal Studios and should take over the direction of the classic film, which is expected in 2016 in theaters. Actually, this task should come to Joe Wright ("Pride and Prejudice"). However, he seems to be flirting with a new edition of "Peter Pan".
If you're hoping for a colorful Disney theme à la " Arielle " at "The Little Mermaid", you'll probably be disappointed. The whole is supposed to be based on the original by Hans Christian Andersen from 1837. In this version, unfortunately, fate knows no mercy with the little mermaid, who is unhappily in love with a prince.
We are curious how Sofia Coppola immerses the underwater world in her romantic-dreamy style and hope for a magical fairytale film.
