Saving on tooth cleaning is not as difficult as you might think. You can easily remove tartar yourself.

Every six months I go to the teeth cleaning. The feeling afterwards is great, but when I look at the bill, my jaw drops every time. 50 euros and upwards costs a cleaning of the teeth on average. Who does not want to spend so much, can remove tartar at home.

How does tartar develop?

Tartar consists of calcium and phosphate compounds, which deposit in the soft plaque and become hard. Tartar is formed where not sufficiently cleaned. Once the tartar is there, it can not be brushed off. Tartar itself is not dangerous. Tooth decay is almost never found under him. However, bacteria can settle on the tartar and so it leads to a periodontitis (inflammation of the dental bed).

If you want to get rid of tartar, you can make yourself a solution that dissolves the tartar. You need:

  • A toothbrush
  • salt
  • water
  • A cup
  • hydrogen peroxide
  • Sodium bicarbonate (soda) (this is a well-known and popular supplement for intensive teeth cleaning)
  • A toothpick
  • Antiseptic mouthwash

First mix the baking soda with half a spoonful of salt in a bit of water and put it on the toothbrush. Then you brush your teeth thoroughly with this scrub. The remains NEVER spit into the sink and do not swallow.

Then you take a cup of hydrogen peroxide (available online or at the pharmacy) and mix it with half a cup of warm water. With it you rinse your mouth and rinse with water.

Now you can take the toothpick (preferably medical toothpick) and crumble the places with tartar. That should be relatively easy after pretreatment.

After removing the tartar, rinse your mouth with the antiseptic mouthwash. Do not rinse afterwards.
