It's so easy to sew a picnic mat

Relaxing in the fresh air

This picnic mat is the perfect companion for a sunny day outdoors. Just follow our instructions and sew the mat itself.

What you need for the picnic mat:

  • Fabric 69 x 164 cm (Free Spirit from the collection Elizabeth, about 17 € / m)
  • Volume fleece 69 x 164 cm (department store)
  • Oilcloth 69 x 164 cm (Mrs. Tulip "PünktchenWax - dark blue", 20 €)
  • Felt tape dark blue about 90 cm
  • pins
  • Sewing machine and matching yarn
  • fabric scissors
  • pencil

And that's how easy it is:

1. Place the colored fabric on the volume fleece and fix with pins.

2. Then stitch horizontally at a distance of 40 cm. (Upper and lower sections are 42 cm tall due to seam allowance.)

3. On the oilcloth, use the pencil to draw the same subdivisions as above to secure and sew the felt strip (handle) in the middle of the two inner sections.

4. Then place the oilcloth on the fabric right to right, fix with pins and sew together with a seam allowance of approx. 2 cm. Leave a short side open.

5. Invert after sewing and sew the open side.

6. If you want, you can repeat the horizontal stitching to see it from both sides.
