The dream ship captain in the home port
He plucks the strings of his guitar, she sings to it. A wonderfully idyllic afternoon with Siegfried Rauch (80) and wife Karin (70) in their romantic farm in Bavaria. There we talked with the actor about his new life after the " dream ship ".
Is it hard for you to retire as a captain?
Siegfried Rauch : It was a wonderful time! But is not it supposed to stop when it's most beautiful? I go with a tear in my eye, but also with a big laugh. Because I never intended to trip from the bridge at some point.
Now I'm happy to finally have a winter again and to have more time for my family.
More time for the family?
Siegfried Rauch : If I'm honest: With my sons Benedikt and Jakob I have missed a lot when they grew up. I've always been to filming all over the world. I do not want to repeat this mistake with my grandchildren again. Because the missed can not make up unfortunately.

Siegfried Rauch : Yes, I became Grandpa for the third time almost four months ago. The little Xaver. When he smiles at me, the sun rises. When I sat alone in the cabin during the last Dreamship shoot and had to look at my grandchildren on the computer, I was sick with homesickness.
How does your wife deal with this, when you are suddenly much more at home?
Siegfried Rauch (laughs): That's going to be exciting. First, the marriage is almost apart, because I was never there. And now she almost breaks, because I'm always at home. No, seriously, we've been through so much in almost five decades. Nothing throws us off course.
Your book "Captain's Dinner - When dreams come true" has just been published. Have all been fulfilled?
Siegfried Rauch : Yes, most of them. I stood z. B. as a little boy on Ammersee, looked after the big steamer. At the time, I dreamed of becoming a captain. It worked. And I admired the world star Steve McQueen. He became my friend. I thank God for my wonderful life!
