Cloth napkin (cotton, 45x45 cm), spray starch, iron
1. Spray the napkin with spray starch and smooth with the iron. Spread the napkin in front of you and fold down along the horizontal center line. The result is a two-ply, open to the lower side rectangle.
2. From the bottom right corner, unfold the top layer and place it on the bottom left corner (the top right corner is at the center of the lower edge, making the right side of the napkin an upward-pointing triangle,
3. Flip the left half of the triangle symmetrically to the right half.
4. Fold the top left corner of the napkin from top left to bottom right, creating a triangle as well.
5. Now fold this triangle to the right on the other triangle. You now have three superimposed triangles.
6. Roll up the triangle from the vertical, wait a bit (until the shape has stiffened) and then place it on the plate. Loosen the lower tips loosely. The result is an elegant, helical shape.
7. Drape napkin with a mini vase on the plate.
Tip: For added stability, use a paper clip to pin the napkin in an inconspicuous spot.
