Scrotal elephantiasis

The American Dan Maurer suffers from the rare disease scrotal elephantiasis. By a 45kg testicles his life is a single torment.

Several years ago, Dan Mason from Battle Creek (Michigan, USA) noticed that his testicles were getting bigger. When he went to see a doctor, he advised him to lose weight. His obesity is the reason for the enlarged genitals. However, years after this first visit to the doctor, Dan has actually suffered to this day. It is the rare disease scrotal elephantiasis also known as genital elephantiasis.

The abnormal growth of Dan's testicles, which now weighs 45 kilograms, was triggered by a lymphatic dew. However, this was discovered very late. Dan was always first encouraged to lose weight. The 39-year-old did the same. Through sport, he took almost 25kg within a very short time. But his testicles continued to grow. Now he also prevents him from walking. Dan does not make more than 15 steps at a time.

Only when Dan is again hospitalized with great pain, the doctors are looking for other causes for the enormously enlarged testicles. A burst cyst inside the testicle can not ignore it.

With the help of a program on the American TV station TLC, Dan Maurer finally comes up with the idea of what might be wrong with him. He sees a post about Wesley Warren Jr, an American who has had a 60 kilogram testicle removed.

Dan went in search of a doctor who would perform the same operation on him. He finds one in California. However, as the operation is not covered by his insurance, Dan Maurer uses crowdfunding to raise enough money for the treatment. He has success. This Thursday, the operation will be performed. Approximately 75 percent of Dan's testicles are to be removed.

There are many risks associated with treatment. Among other things, Dan could completely lose his genitals. But the man, who has been suffering from the rare disease of scrotal elephantiasis for years, wants to take that risk to be able to lead a normal life with his wife Mindy - with everything that usually goes with a marriage.
