The father shook the baby
After her father shook her, Cheyenne had to go to the hospital. There, half the brain was removed from the then eight-month-old baby. Today the girl is three years old.
The 17th of August 2012 starts like every other Friday. The eight-month-old Cheyenne Rae is brought to her father's house in Welford, where she spends the weekends. Owensby does not like to leave her daughter alone - but with her childhood sweetheart James and the birth father trusts her that the baby is in good hands. But the mother is wrong. Only one and a half hours later, she receives the call that her daughter had to go to the hospital. Her father had shaken her.

Since that day, Cheyenne Rae celebrates its birthday twice a year. On August 17, 2015, the little girl already lives three years with half a brain. She will be four years old soon.
That Cheyenne Rae is still alive borders on a miracle. When her mother arrives back at the father of her child on the day of the accident, the prognoses are bad. Owensby does not know how you happen. After her eight-month-old baby was healthy just a few hours ago, it is suddenly in mortal danger. The mother has to watch her lifeless baby being put in a rescue helicopter. The heart of the little ones does not beat anymore.

Owensby does not take a step off her daughter's side until she is taken to the operating room. She suffers from severe cerebral hemorrhages, in an emergency operation the baby needs half the brain to be removed . Her mother, Owensby, now remembers with horror the worst hours of her life praying for her daughter surrounded by tubes.

When she sees her tiny baby lying in the hospital bed, she still can not understand what could have happened to Cheyenne in such a short time. Then the mother receives a phone call that causes her world to collapse completely: the physical father is responsible for the condition. When the baby did not stop screaming, he shook it and lost control.
Owensby explains on her Prayers for Cheyenne Rae Facebook page that she is still often asked how she left her baby alone. In her eyes, the girl was not alone. She was with the person she most trusted: "James was my first love, my high school friend, my one and all ... I knew him forever and never thought he would be able to hurt anyone, certainly not our own daughter. "James Davis was sentenced to ten years in prison. On the Internet, the mother now wants to draw attention to the dangers of shaking trauma. Just a few seconds out of control can change the baby's life forever.

After Cheyenne Rae had to remove the left half of her brain three years ago, doctors had little hope. But the girl showed an impressive will to live. One month after the procedure, she is allowed to go home.
The shaking trauma has left damage. Since she was removed from her left brain as a baby, Cheyenne Rae has difficulty moving her right side . Balance problems make running a challenge. But what matters is that she is alive. To date, therapies help her lead a normal life. And Cheyenne is making progress: she can talk now and even run again! Today, Cheyenne Rae is a happy little girl who plays happily with her friends and celebrates her birthday twice a year.
