New look

Restore the rocking chair and make a matching pillow: That's how it's done

  • Sanding block and paper
  • Undercoat
  • Buntlack
  • foam
  • Contact adhesive
  • Diolen batting
  • zipper
  • white and red linen fabric
  • cord edge

First, remove the old paint and varnish layers of the chair.

Start with coarse sandpaper (80 grit), use finer grit in the second pass. Prime with primer, sand again on dried surface, apply colored varnish.

Repaint several times depending on the opacity. Always work with intermediate sanding.

Make a template of the seat, transfer the outline to foam and cut it. Coat edges with contact adhesive, allow to dry and press flat.

Cut two pieces of cotton fleece with the help of the template, place them on the front and back of the foam padding, sew the three layers together with coarse stitches.

For the front cut the fabric according to pattern with approx. 1.5 cm seam allowance. For the back side, cut the template vertically, place both halves on the fabric at a distance of 1.5 cm in the middle, record the outline with the usual seam allowance and cut the fabric . Divide the blank in the middle and sew in the zipper.

For the insert, cut a strip of fabric of appropriate length (measure the pattern all around and add 20 cm) and cut to a width of 4 cm. Put the string of string into the center of the strip, fold it over and sew it along the string using the sewing machine's piping foot.

Sew on the piping string on the right side of the front piece. Put the front and the back together right to right, open the zipper and sew both parts together using the piping stand. Turn the cover and insert the pad.
