The first surprise already tells about her birth. Because little Máxima was born out of wedlock! Since her father Jorge Zorreguieta (85) had long since separated from his first wife, but he could not marry Máxima's mother Maria (68), because then in Argentina, no divorce right existed. The two gave themselves a year before Máxima's birth in Paraguay the yes-word. In the home but had no validity. For the Argentine authorities Máxima was considered the daughter of a single mother. Only in 1987 changed the law and the parents could catch up with her yes-word.
At the time Máxima was already a 16-year-old teenager - and what a! Like other young girls she wanted to discover life. Often she went out in the evening, smoked secretly and tasted the first alcoholic drinks. At the weekend she came home after wild party nights only in the early morning and then, to the chagrin of the parents, did not get up before noon.
And it was the time when Maxima discovered love. At the age of 13 she got her first kiss from a boy on the beach of Lagoinha, a holiday resort in Brazil. Later she told friends that she never forgot the salty taste of his lips.
She was in love for the first time three years later. But Máxima kept her lover secret. For good reason. Because her friend Tiziano was already 23! A dazzling-looking Argentine, for whom the women swarmed. He also took Máxima by storm. The parents were horrified when they found out. Especially her mother was almost bursting with anger. "He's seven years older than you!" She accused the daughter. But the countered responded quick-witted: "And dad is fifteen years older than you!"
Máxima was not impressed. For three years she stayed with Tiziano. Then other men entered their lives. An aspiring cook, a realtor - and finally in 1999 her dream prince Willem-Alexander (45), at whose side she is now crowned.
Out of love for him, she left her home and her family. A great sacrifice. And that's why Willem-Alexander certainly does not care what secret his wife has come to light. After all, in the past she was just a fun-loving young girl like many others.
But maybe there is one difference: "Máxima has something special. Such a certain glow ... ", tell her friends. A glow that now radiates from Holland into the whole world ...
