Princess Cristina of Spain: Father-in-law is dead

Assistance of Queen Sofia

Yesterday, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain had a golden wedding, but a celebration with international guests was - as already reported here - waived. Reasons for this were not mentioned by the court, so that it was speculated that the rejection could have something to do with the alleged secret love affairs of the king.

But now it came out that even a death would have made a festival on a grand scale impossible. Because: A few days ago, the father-in-law of Princess Cristina - Juan Mari Urdangarin Berriotxoa - died at the age of 79 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.

The old man had been ill for some time. He was sitting in a wheelchair after heart problems and stroke. Queen Sofia (73) and Princess Elena (48) traveled to Vitoria-Gasteiz to assist Cristina (46), her husband Iňaki (44) and the children. A sign that the royal family has by no means broken with the former handball star, who is currently facing legal responsibility for fraud.

King Juan Carlos (74) was not in because he is still suffering from his second hip replacement.

Iňaki looks relaxed against his verdict. He hopes for a probation or fine. The fact that he tried to negotiate with the court a "deal" (confession against leniency) was denied by lawyer.

Obviously, it is not true that Princess Cristina is no longer allowed to make appointments for the royal house because of this scam affair, as she only took over the task of opening an exhibition of the Spanish painter genius Salvador Dali the day before her father- in -law's New York death.
