Clear the stage for new storage space

You want to change and want to create a separate dining and living area in a room? With a pedestal's the ideal room solution.

A large room is uncomfortable. With a pedestal you create a second living level, which clearly divides the space and still accommodates many things. Here comes our before and after ...

Building a pedestal : BEFORE

Before the conversion, the living room seemed just full. Beautiful heirlooms and modern furniture did not quite fit together. The functional areas went into each other completely unchartered. All this left the room unstructured and uncomfortable.

Building a pedestal : AFTER

Picture above: Through the second level the room looks structured and tidy. Under the structure create boxes, boxes, drawers additional storage space. The dining area leads to the lounge area via three steps. The change of floor coverings emphasizes the division optically. A double-sided accessible shelf acts as a room divider between the sofa and dining area - and rear wall for a bench. Yellow accessories set fresh accents. How you can build the pedestal is revealed by our costless guide

Sofa bed, 86 x 203 x 98 cm, about 1290 Euro: Car. Modular shelf "Hochstapler", each 38 x 76 x 32 cm,
about 80 euros: Tojo furniture. Carpet floor "Vela", about 80 Euro / sqm: JabAnstoetz carpets

dinner music

With carpet and seat and a mix of old and new chairs the dining area is breathed new life. Surrounded by sunny tones, the piano is also perfectly staged in a changed context.

Dining chairs "Chicago", 77 x 61 x 54 cm, about 479 euros: Bolia. Pendant lights "Caravaggio", from H 20 cm, about 195 euros: LightYears. Stool, yellow, "TamTam", h 47 cm, approx. 206 euros: Made in Design

Signed and sealed

If you move the seat aside, the backrest can be pulled out to two oversized drawers, which take advantage of the space under the pedestal. Seat cushions or folding chairs can disappear here.

Bench "Sigurd", 45 x 114 x 43 cm, approx. 69 Euro: Ikea. Seen in a similar way: magazine collector, 32 x 8 x 24 cm, approx. 29 euros: natural home; Vase, white, H 18 cm, ca. 42 Euro: FermLiving

More depth

If you extend the windowsill into the room, a lot of storage space is created above and below. While space can be made up for decoration arrangements, book boxes, containers can be found below
and small stools can be accommodated.

Table lamp "Flax", H 45 cm, approx. 119 Euro: Bolia. Fabric for curtains "Yasmina", width 300 cm, approx. 71 Euro / m: hem & Viebahn. Sitting stool, 40 x 40 x 40 cm, approx. 249 Euro: Bent Hansen via www.weide-hamburg.de

rest area

The fact that the cuddly realm begins here is already recognizable on the floor covering: Instead of wood, a fluffy carpet has been laid. Bright natural tones, combined with yellow, have a calm and relaxing effect.

Sofa bed, 86 x 203 x 98 cm, about 1290 Euro: Car. Modular shelf "Hochstapler", each 38 x 76 x 32 cm, approx. 80 euros: Tojo furniture. Carpet floor "Vela", about 80 Euro / sqm: JabAnstoetz carpets

backing

Well shielded by a high back, the modern interpretation of the wing chair offers an intimate space in the room. Since the wings reach above head height, even noises are insulated.

Armchair "Basket", 127 x 90 x 74 cm, approx. From 1300 Euro: Softline. Side table "Reachhigh", 63 x 61 x 39 cm, approx. 200 Euro: Bolia

Dipped in the sun

With a little color, simple vases can easily be upgraded.

That's how it works:
Stick the vase to the desired line with tape and press it well. Paint the lower part of the vase with acrylic paint and let it dry well. Tip: You can do it faster if you dab the vase in the paint.

5 tips for more storage space - how it's done:

You have little storage space? Then think again and use places you have not had before:

1. Behind the sofa Prefer the couch a bit and install a shelf between the wall and the backrest. Underneath is space to stow, on top of which you can put books or lights.

2. Under the stairs Often there is still room under the slope for fitted shelves or built-in wardrobes.

3. Next to the cabinet With shelves and a coat rack you can use the space between the wall and the wardrobe.

4. Under the bed In large drawers (on wheels) clothes, suitcases or bed linen can be discreetly stored.

5. Next to the windows If the curtain rod is moved forwards by 30 cm, storage space is created behind the stores on both sides.
