Perfect Body: Rage for poster of Victoria's Secret

Young women fight back against lingerie poster

Perfect bodies are very, very thin, says the lingerie label Victoria's Secret. Three young Americans defend themselves against the harmful advertising message.

Yes, the women on the latest Victoria's Secret poster are really beautiful. But are they perfect too?

That's not the question for three young women from the US. What bothers her is the fact that the lingerie label claims to describe a certain body shape as "perfect, " which can be felt to reach no more than two percent of the women on this planet.

When the three students Frances Black, Gabriella Kountourides and Laura Ferris discovered this poster in a shopping center, they were extremely angry and posed for the photo with the middle finger, which they then spread via the short message service Twitter. Her message: "What gives Victoria's Secret the right to determine what a perfect body is ???"

Readers' reactions to the picture were so impressive that the three decided to launch an online petition against the Perfect Body campaign.

On the related page they write: "Every day, women are bombarded with advertisements that make them insecure and dissatisfied with their bodies, so they then buy products that will make them more beautiful and happy, thus creating a culture that poses serious health problems as a negative body image and promotes eating disorders ".

What the three want to achieve: " We want Victoria's Secret to apologize and take responsibility for the unhealthy and damaging message about women and how their bodies are rated, which the company sends out to society through the words" The Perfect Body. " " We urge Victoria's Secret to change the wording in the ad for the BH line Body so that it no longer promotes unhealthy and unrealistic beauty standards."

We understand these demands well and hope very much that Victoria's Secret does not shirk the appeal of these women. After all, women can look beautiful even without push-up bras and shaping clothes, with a few extra pounds or stretch marks!

So far, the company has not responded to the petition. However, it would be extremely unreasonable to ignore a petition that has already found more than 20, 000 supporters.

Unfortunately, Victoria's Secret is far from the only label that relies on a spindly image of women. Under the keyword #poorbodyimage are currently collected on Twitter images of mega-thin fashion dolls. Its scary.
