Smartphone at the table - does that have to be?

Smartphones have no place at the table! In the video "Pass The Salt", a father takes unusual measures ...

Smartphones dominate everyday life. The practicalities of today's phones can not be denied, but does the device really need to be within reach? Especially in society, the virtual world quickly overshadows reality. Listening is only half-hearted, if by the way the smartphone is clamoring. The gaze quickly wanders over to the display to catch who has probably sent a message. Once the smartphone is in your hand, an answer is quickly typed. At the latest at this time the attention is completely focused on the phone.

For this reason, many people agree: At least at the table, the smartphone should be taboo . This is also the opinion of the father in the video "Pass the Salt", which is currently going around the world and has been clicked over five million times.

The video shows an everyday situation. A family is sitting at the table and eating. Instead of lively conversations, however, there is silence in the room. Parents are focused on their food, the sons much more on their smartphone. There is no trace of communication. When the father asks his son for the salt and then gets pepper pushed, he bursts the collar.

But the family man will not be loud. He does not yell at his children, nor does he take away their smartphones. The man uses an intelligent alternative: He brings his typewriter to the table. In the middle of the table is carved loudly in the keys, so that even the sons look annoyed by their smartphones. When asked, the father reacts like a reflection of his children, with a delay followed by the acidified answer.

After the little show, the father starts another try and he gets his salt. The slightly different education method in "Pass The Salt" illustrates how smartphones dominate our everyday lives - and that they have no business at the table.
