Nico Richter operates with Paleo360.de Germany's most famous Paleo blog. Now the 30-year-old from Munich is launching his own cookbook around the nutrition trend. "PALEO Power for Life" is under the motto "Stone Age Diet: lose weight without losing weight, get fit and slim". We talked to Nico Richter about the new dietary trend, he tells us for whom the Paleo diet is suitable and what the Stone Age kitchen has done for him personally.

What is Paleo actually?

When I was looking for a "healthy" diet to get my freshly diagnosed, bad blood levels under control, a pal told me about Paleo, the "Stone Age diet." He tried this diet, which was already very popular in the US, for 30 days and he was doing great. I worked hard with the facts behind Paleo, which offers a counter-concept to the typical western diet, and went fully into the 30 days. The basic idea of the Paleo diet is to feed on natural and unprocessed foods in the form of meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits and natural fat sources. These provide the human body with all the essential nutrients it needs to live healthy and maintain or regain its natural fitness.

What is dispensed with in the Paleo diet?

Highly processed, chemically modified and nutrient-poor industrial products are avoided. Everything that has existed since the introduction of agriculture and / or industrialization: cereals, dairy products, legumes, sugar, highly processed vegetable fats and artificial additives.

What is good about it?

You avoid all potentially harmful "foods" and provide your body with all the important nutrients. After the first "clean" week of the 30-day Paleo, you already notice the first positive effects. Paleo helped me to sleep better, lose extra pounds (although I have always done a lot of sports), maintain more constant energy levels (no afternoon tiredness) and improve my athletic performance. But above all, my blood levels (sugar, fats, etc.) have improved significantly and are back in the optimal range. But our readers also report astounding successes in losing weight, treating serious illness or simply increasing personal well-being.

Are not important nutrients missing from the Paleo diet?

No, just the opposite. Fat, proteins, healthy carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, minerals - all in sufficient quantity and range available in natural and unprocessed foods. And by eliminating anti-nutrients from cereals and Co., the utilization of these nutrients in the body is even significantly improved.

Who is the diet suitable for?

The dietary change on the Paleo diet makes sense for anyone who has no particular limitations due to certain intolerances or serious illnesses. You can vary and design Paleo to achieve your goals in any case. No matter on losing weight, building muscle, increasing performance or avoiding civilization diseases.

How fast do the pounds fall?

If you restrict the consumption of carbohydrates and move regularly is usually relatively fast. But again: Not the short-term loss of a few kilos is in focus but the long-term health. And believe me, the kilos eventually fall by itself.

Do you sometimes make exceptions when eating?

Yes sure. For the World Cup final, there are also sometimes pizza and beer. But the good thing is that these little "sins" increase the motivation to eat well most of the time.

Your tip against cravings?

First drink a glass of water and then consider whether you are really hungry. If so, then a boiled egg, a few nuts, coconut chips or a piece of very dark chocolate.
