Colorful, pretty, chocolaty: One of the greatest traditions around Easter is probably the Easter egg. But where does this tradition come from, to delight young and old every year, and to offer so many pretty decorative possibilities for our Easter home?

Where does the Easter egg come from?

In Lent before Easter, Christians were never allowed to eat meat or other animal products (including eggs). In order to preserve the eggs laid in time, they were cooked hard. In order to differentiate between the boiled and the uncooked eggs, beetroot was added to the cooking water. At Easter, these eggs were then generously distributed.
