Original Ideal: So much do we influence common beauty ideals

Here are the results of Original Ideal - the first pictures are each the original portrait, followed by the ideal presentation of the test subjects.

How would you like to find yourself?

How do we decide what we find beautiful on a face and how do these impressions affect our self-image? To answer these questions, a photographer started an interesting experiment.

Be honest: who finds himself perfect ? Each of us would probably make a few small changes at one point or another, if that were easily possible. But as we would like to ourselves, we can usually describe outsiders only poorly.

This has moved the Scott Chasserot to his 'Original Ideal' experiment: Using a brain scan, the photographer learns how different subjects would find each other most beautiful. For this purpose, as neutral as possible portrait photographs of the participants are made, which are processed in different ways: sometimes the facial features are well adapted to common ideals of beauty, sometimes the opposite happens. The test persons are finally shown the different photos and evaluated with the brain scan, which appeals to them the most.

The result is a whole collection of "before and after" photos, which give an honest testimony of how each individual is influenced by common beauty ideals . Because what we transfer to ourselves always says something about our self-image.

If one compares the portraits of men and women of ' Original Ideal ', one thing becomes clear: Men seem to be relatively happier with themselves than we women. Maybe it's time to be a little less hard on yourself ...
