Newspaper rack and wall-hung silo: These two clever everyday objects we simply make from things that we have at home anyway. Who wants to join in?

What you need for the magazine rack:

  • 4 wooden hangers (eg Ikea, boomerang, 8 pieces 4.99 €)
  • 4 screws 4 nails (about 2 cm long)
  • Fabric (eg fabric and style)
  • wood glue
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • Cordless screwdriver and drill (1 cm)
  • possibly adhesive tape
  • hammer
  • saw
  • tape measure
  • fabric scissors
  • Sewing machine and matching yarn

And that's how easy it is:

1. Bend the handle back and forth, loosen it and remove it from the brackets.

2. Also remove the trouser bars by pulling hard on the bar. (To help you can pry with a slotted screw underneath).

3. Fix two brackets together with two screws. Make sure that the curvature of the straps (the bulge on the garment shoulder strap) is in the same direction.

4. Drill approx. 6 mm into the wood at the ends of the brackets (if you want to be on the safe side, you can mark them with adhesive tape on the drill 7 mm beforehand).

5. Two of the trouser bars at the beginning are now fixed in the corners with nails for stabilization.

6. Measure the distance between the fixed brackets.

7. Transfer this measure plus approx. 12 mm to the 2 remaining trouser bars and saw off.

8. Measure the length and width of the fabric with the measuring tape (consider about 10 cm for the seam and seam allowance). Transfer the measure twice to the fabric and cut it out. Lay the fabric right side up and sew together, leaving one side open for turning. After turning, put on each side approx. 10 cm hem and topstitch.

9. Pull the fabric onto the shortened strips.

10. Glue these with glue into the predrilled holes on the temples and allow to dry thoroughly.

What you need for the wall silo:

  • gray felt plate approx. 3 mm thickness (idea, 2, 49 €)
  • 1 wooden trouser hanger (eg Ikea, boomerang, 8 pieces 4, 99 €)
  • Embroidery thread green and white felt approx. 1 mm thickness (idea, 0, 59 €)
  • fabric scissors
  • sewing needle
  • sheet of paper
  • scissors

And that's how easy it is:

1. Cut the gray felt board (35 x 45 cm).

2. Fold the felt over the trouser hanger (approx. 5 cm) and fasten with any desired decorative stitches in different colors.

3. From the sheet of paper cut stencils for the small bags and arrange for test on the gray felt.

4. Transfer the stencils to the thin felt. Cut out felt.

5. Sew the pockets on the felt panel with coarse stitches.
