Mother is no longer allowed to breastfeed because of tattoo

Incredible, what an Australian judge has just spoken for a verdict. A mother is no longer allowed to breastfeed her baby because she had her tattooed four weeks earlier.

That poses a health risk to the child.

Tattoo needles can transmit hepatitis or AIDS . The court considers this to be too risky and therefore forbids the mother to breastfeed. For if the mother had been infected, then the child could also be infected by the breast milk . Of course, the mother then made an AIDS and hepatitis test. Both were negative. The court still sticks to the decision.

The father of the child had sued. It is therefore an isolated case. There will certainly be no law against the breastfeeding of newly tattooed mothers.

Nevertheless, experts are alarmed: A mother has to decide for herself, when and how she breastfeeds. Here the law should not act. As long as the mother has visited a controlled studio and no danger of infection is to be expected, nobody should be able to intervene in breastfeeding. The lawyer of the mother has already appealed against the verdict.
