Over the North Atlantic, a horror storm is brewing. Experts reckon with the worst storm of all time.

A several hundred kilometers long storm low heading for Iceland. Even weather experts have not seen such a storm. Nobody yet knows exactly what this monster storm means. It is only clear that it should be about 40 degrees colder than it is currently. What's wrong with the climate?

It is much too warm at the North Pole

Usually it is between -40 and -50 degrees at the North Pole at this time of the year. Due to the storm here are just temperatures above freezing. The reason: warm suptropical air is carried to the north. East of Greenland, this tropical breeze brews into a monster storm and slowly moves north. The storm center is said to be over Iceland in the coming days.

With an air pressure of 920 millibar, a value never measured in these latitudes could come about. A similar storm was last measured in 1996 between Scotland and Iceland.

Experts are at a loss

How exactly this monster storm and the warming of the North Pole can come, researchers do not know. They suspect that the weather phenomenon El NiƱo plays a role in the Pacific. In addition, so-called jet stream wind flows at high altitude - a lot of warm air is transported.

Already England is afflicted by a flood of the century . These rains have intensified at night. On Wednesday, the storm is about to break out of Iceland. In Canada and Siberia around 20 degrees above normal is reached.

What is going on in Germany?

The foothills of the storm are felt in Germany as a storm depression "Eckard" . For Germany, however, is the all-clear: We are spared by too bad consequences of the monster storm. Worse, it hits Ireland, Scotland and Norway. Here already 252 km / h were measured at an altitude of about 1000 meters.
