In the heart of the Lüneburg Heath

A guest of Elke Moll: In the heart of the Lüneburg Heath, the initiator of the day of the "open garden gate" has created a romantic paradise.

When she sows, plants and digs, she feels grounded. Her passion for flowers and planting is written in the happy face of Elke Moll (55) when we visit her in her dream garden near Lüneburg.

Surrounded by forests, fields and picturesque heathland she lives here with her husband Christian and the Alpenländische Dachsbracke Espe. "I grew up close to nature and have always dreamed of a large garden, " admits the trained window decorator.

When the couple then moved into the heath 23 years ago, it was clear: The center of life was to be in the countryside. In the village Eyendorf they finally found what they were looking for and bought the approx. 1700 square meter plot with red clinker house.

Variety: In order to interrupt large green areas, Elke has created island beds. You relax the overall picture without taking the garden .

From the South: Ideal as an underplant for magnificent robber barley roses: bushy growing lavender .

With pleasure: "Of course a garden means work. But seeing how everything grows and thrives compensates for all efforts, "enthuses the nature lover.

Inspired by numerous trips - including to England - Elke let her imagination run free from now on. She designed her green oasis with countless varieties of roses, topiary shrubs and typical farmland plants such as lavender, poppy and vetch. But that's not all: In addition to all the flowering plants, there is an approximately 150 square meter kitchen garden and many natural areas with grasses and bushes.

Second Chance: When the big apple tree came in, Elke did not have the heart to cut it. Instead, she planted a white-flowered climbing rose, which now gives him a new crown

Also from England came the idea for the "open garden gate", which she brought together with the tree nursery Pantelmann about 15 years ago in the Salzhausen region. Since then, around 16 different private gardens around Eyendorf have opened their doors to interested visitors on a Sunday in June.

Place in the sun: The inviting wooden bench next to the front door is a popular meeting place for a chat with neighbors or the postman.
