The right paint for every surface

Opaque painted surfaces or rather a glazed surface with translucent grain? Our tips help with the decision.

If you want to reach for the right product on the color shelf, you first need to know which requirements it applies to the coating. Because there are visually and functionally great differences between the paints.

Acrylic paints have many advantages. They are usable inside and outside, extremely lightfast and do not discolour. Due to their good elasticity, they are very good at moving wood surfaces, for example. They do not embrittle them and do not explode. That is why they are clearly superior to other systems in terms of longevity.

Resin paints, often referred to as colored paints, are much longer than acrylic paints . They are diluted to this day with turpentine substitute or universal dilution and "stink" during processing. But they are resilient and impact and shock resistant. However, they become easily brittle and fade after a few years.

Many paints have a solvent content of more than 50%. She will not be there soon. According to the EU-wide Deco-Paint Directive, only less than 40% of solvents may be included from 1.1.2007 and less than 35% from 1.1.2010.

Which glaze for which purpose?

While you can paint almost any surface, glazes are mainly used for wood. A distinction is made between thin and thick-film glazes.

Thin-film glazes are mainly used indoors. They are dilutable with water and transparent, that is, the grain of the wood remains visible. The glaze retracts completely, leaving no visible film behind. Thick-layer glazes are well suited for exterior coatings, eg. B. for wooden windows. The order creates a powerful film that clearly recognizes the grain and lets the moisture escape from the wood.

The pluses for acrylic paints:

  • You can dilute it with water and clean the brush and rollers with water - this is not part of the wastewater
  • They are extremely lightfast, the colors permanently retain their original tone
  • They have a high elasticity, do not tear and do not peel off
  • They contain a maximum of 10% solvent
  • They often carry the environmental seal "Blue Angel"
