Doctors thought she was pregnant, but she had cancer

She runs from doctor to doctor and over and over again she has to do pregnancy tests. But the woman is not pregnant, she has cancer.

When Louise Bryant first goes to see a doctor, she complains of severe abdominal pain. Her abdomen is swollen, and the young woman suffers from irregular bleeding. Although she can actually rule out pregnancy, she does a first test, unaware that many more will follow. The pregnancy test is negative.

Louise is worried, she turns to several doctors who repeatedly come to the same suspicion: The young woman is pregnant. But any further pregnancy test remains negative.

When her symptoms persist, a doctor finally decides to perform an examination that would have been needed much earlier. In the ultrasound he makes a frightening discovery. Contrary to doctors' expectations, Louise is not pregnant. She has cancer.

The young woman suffers from a rare form of ovarian cancer and a football-sized tumor has formed in her stomach to explain her symptoms. Finally she is operated on. In a four-hour procedure, the tumor can be successfully removed.

That several doctors thought she was pregnant even though she had cancer, Louise points out. She is glad that she was not satisfied with the misdiagnosis and persisted. Otherwise, the false beliefs of the doctors would have cost her life in the worst case.

Increasingly, misdiagnosis of doctors is reported. Therefore, it is all the more important to pay attention to his gut feeling and to observe his body well. These are the symptoms of ovarian cancer that a trained doctor should have realized:

  • Irregular bleeding
  • Unexplained stomach pain or indigestion
  • weight loss
  • Increase in abdominal circumference
  • exhaustion
