Run on royal art

How often she has been in the limelight, she can no longer count, and yet Queen Margrethe sometimes steals something like excitement and stage fright. This tingling sensation in her stomach, she once said, is always felt when she is publicly presented as an artist, not as the head of state. This is now the case again, as the Museum Arken in Ishøj near Copenhagen, which is one of the most prestigious exhibition venues in Denmark, presents 130 watercolors, acrylic works and collages by the royal hobby artist. She hopes for gracious accommodation, said Queen Margrethe at the opening of her picture show. Thus, she gave all critics to understand that she does not see herself as a painter in the main job, but as a woman who lets her soul speak through color. How this emotional world - sometimes garish and colorful, sometimes tender and restrained - looks like it was brought on canvas, apparently interested Danes and tourists alike. Arken director Christian Gether registered a veritable mass onslaught during an unofficial preview of the art exhibition, which, according to his words, is already suggesting a visitor record 2012 in Ishø.
