Many believed that she might fall into melancholy before her abdication. But Holland's monarch seems to be looking forward to her retirement. On her new life - and maybe on a new love ...

Of course, changing the throne will change a lot for the mother of the country. For 33 years, representative duties defined their daily lives. As of April 30, she is no longer a majesty, and then wears the title Princess of the Netherlands. Above all, Beatrix now has plenty of time for private moments. And their new domicile is made for that.

After the abdication, she moves to Drakensteyn Castle. The place where Beatrix was once so happy with her beloved Prince Claus († 2002). The castle has thoroughly renovated it and set up a room for each of her eight grandchildren. The little ones were even allowed to decide what it should look like. After all, Beatrix is ​​a grandmother with heart and soul and is looking forward to having more time for her grandchildren.

The idyllically situated castle offers an undisturbed privacy. Surrounded by a moat, it is easy to guard, requires only a small amount of staff. The environment is perfect for beautiful walks. Whether she will soon be accompanied by a man again - as when Prince Claus was still at her side?

"There is no room for another man in my life, " Beatrix once said. But who knows - Holland has often speculated that the queen does not have a new husband at her side. Sometimes it is an ambassador from Israel, sometimes a scientist from England. She was especially familiar with the lawyer Jan Maarten Boll (70). And at public appearances, Beatrix seems to be thriving in the company of elegant gentlemen.

Prince Claus would give her a late happiness. Beatrix will also feel that when she ponders his framed picture on the mantelpiece. And whatever happens - in her heart Claus will be with her ...
