Work on the Schlossplatz has begun

Every detour to work or school is annoying and not welcome. This is also known by King Harald (76) and Queen Sonja (75). Therefore, in time for the closure of the Schlossplatz and adjacent areas, they devised a particularly nice gesture: they had bread rolls distributed to hungry citizens, who had to accept inconvenience.

The castle square, castle park and forecourt are frequented daily by thousands of passers-by and tourists. But since this week the Oslo Schlossplatz is closed for repair work. The red gravel, which is distributed throughout the paths, must be renewed, among other things. This should take several months, the royal court said.

And that means detours for many commuters. You may walk on the grass of the park, but you should ask cyclists to reach their destination by other means.

In order to sweeten their citizens the morning and inform at the same time about alternative routes, King Harald and Queen Sonja had therefore now distribute bread from their guards to the people. They stood obediently with blue baskets in the castle park, distributed the bread to commuters and showed them the way helpful.

The royal court explained that the castle itself was still open for sightseeing. All who are charged with running errands for the palace may come through the back door. Other visitors could enter through the north or south entrance.

King Harald and Queen Sonja have shown not only prudence with this action, but also that they have a heart for the small, everyday concerns of the citizen. Would Queen Elizabeth (87) have distributed biscuits?
