There is an ancient, yellowed photo of Pastor Kneipp , as he sits on a chair in the snow - barefoot. He had probably lapped a few laps through the ice-cold grass shortly before, and nothing helped, in his opinion, better against poor performance and a bad mood. In today's Bad Wörishofen, where the water doctor worked for more than 40 years in the 19th century, there is a barefoot path in the spa park: Anyone who masters the 1.6-kilometer route via stick and stone (and through knee-deep mud holes) without cheating, suspects what Kneipp meant. The burning in the soles of the feet works right down to the tips of the hair, you are warm through and through, wide awake and very satisfied. Wherever it did before, now it's gone.

Cold fonts and outdoor treading pools - probably everyone knows this from pastor Kneipp. But only very few are likely to know that the wise man of God was far ahead of his time. 125 years ago, he never treated the symptoms alone, but always looked at the whole person and always prescribed a healthy way of life for his patients. Lots of exercise, sufficient relaxation and natural nutrition were among them - what Sebastian Kneipp then called his "pillars of health", is today, so to speak, the last cry of modern medicine and is considered the best precaution for old age.

Many recipes of the well-tried and highly topical healing method can be easily implemented in everyday life. The first important rule is: hardening . Kneipp 's cold water splashes give the body a powerful stimulus, which stimulates its self-healing powers and strengthens the immune system. This is not only a great preventive, but also acutely helps against ailments of all kinds - from migraines to rheumatism. Because the cold causes the metabolism to get busy, and pain is washed away.

Second rule: keep the nutritional measure. Food should be fun, but not overweight. There are no prohibitions for Kneipp, the fresher and less processed the food, the healthier.

Third rule: every day sufficient exercise. It does not have to be a designated sport; Everything that gets the circulation going is what matters.

The fourth rule, which Kneipp called "life order", is downright made for our stress time. It's about the inner balance, sufficient sleep, shutdown and recovery, the reduction of overwork and excitement. That's the hardest thing to do in the 21st century. Pastor Kneipp would probably have prescribed extensive cell phone and computer breaks and sent stress patients without shoes and stockings on a wet meadow.

For water applications you only need one hose - just unscrew the shower head. Facial irrigation helps with mental and physical fatigue, tension-type headaches and migraines: starting at the right temple and circling the face three times, then three times in longitudinal lines.

The knee nut helps against osteoarthritis pain, varicose veins and lowers high blood pressure. Slowly lead the beam from the little toe over to the outside of the knee, circling there for a while and then hike down over the popliteal fossa on the inside. Change leg. Then just strip off water and put on thick socks.

The cold thigh casting helps with difficulty falling asleep, nervousness and congestion. From the foot slowly lead the hose backwards and further up to the bottom. Stay a few seconds and walk down again. Change without interruption to the other foot. Then sprinkle the front of the legs from bottom to top and back. Warm up and rest for 30 minutes.
