DIY ideas for a lot of cooling off

With these anti-heat tips for people and homes, the heat will leave us cold in the future. Plus: DIY handles, how to design an air conditioner yourself.

At over 40 degrees Germany cracked the heat record this year and the next heat wave will not be long in coming. Airy summer clothing and light meals are almost no longer enough to feel well. Maybe my tips will help you to cool down, so you can really enjoy the summer.

In order not to succumb to the heat, you should pay particular attention to a sufficient water intake. Especially electrolyte drinks or light fruit spritzers are suitable on hot days because they provide the body with enough minerals. Many beauty shops also offer refreshing sprays for the face. A homemade beauty spray is just as nourishing and refreshing. Simply mix 2/3 water with 1/3 green tea and pour into a spray bottle. Positive side effect: The elements of the green tea, the skin does not shine too strong and a fresh complexion is preserved despite the heat.

Very important and for all who did not know it: warm showering rather than cold! Because cold showers cool only for a short time and the body starts to heat up immediately. Better is the lukewarm shower, because it gets the circulation going.

To get enough oxygen you should only air in the morning and in the evening. Once the apartment has been heated, it is difficult to lower the air temperature again. Not everyone owns an air conditioner and usually ordinary fans are not enough in case of high heat. So that your own four walls do not become a sauna, here is a small guide for a self-made air conditioning unit:

You need: flower box, towel, chair, fan

Certainly one or the other of you already has these components at home. Fill the planter with cold water and place it on the floor. Then the towel must be wet and hung over a chair or other aids. The lower end of the wet cloth should hang in the flower box. Finally you put a fan in front of it. When warm air hits the water, the water evaporates, removing heat from the air. The air is cooled down. Do not forget to add water regularly!

An equally fast, effective and cheap alternative are ice cubes. Place a few ice cubes in a bowl and place them in front of your fan to create a cold airflow.

With these tricks, too hot summer days should not cause any problems this year. Come all well through the heatwave and enjoy the summer, because the cold season comes soon enough! I am now making myself comfortable with a large blackcurrant spritzer on my balcony.

All the best, your Eva Brenner
