History: In 1770, the Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf in the small town of Jouy near Versailles printed copper-engraved scenes such as chinoiserie, Pompeii motifs or shepherd's idols on cotton for the first time. These Toiles de Jouy were a hit in aristocratic circles, and Louis XVI. In 1783 the company named "Manufacture Royale".
How-to-do-it: They are considered the most French of all fabric samples . The white cotton gives them a washy character with boudoir flair - ideal for the bedroom . But less is more: use only one or two fabric patterns, with unis, stripes, plaids loosen up and stay in a color family! Nice as a wall covering or "picture" on stretcher. Fabric pattern from 1001 Nights
History: At the end of the 18th century, British soldiers brought precious cashmere scarves with the drop motif as souvenirs from India - immediately sought-after fashion items, even worn by Queen Victoria. The namesake was the Scottish town of Paisley, where the scarves were soon floated.
How-to-do-it: Curtains, cushions, upholstery or bedspreads with Paisley conjure up a flair of 1001 nights in the interior - they fit into the exotic living, but can also be staged in a reduced style of living with concrete and wood as a sensual aspect. Different paisley patterns can be mixed if you stick to a color scheme and a style - for example, all woven from silk and wool or all printed on cotton. The combination of fabric patterns with solid tones calms, white refreshes.
Fabric pattern with understatement - very british!
History: In 1924, Thomas Burberry first launched his famous fabric pattern as a lining material for trench coats. Inspired by the Scottish tartans, it soon became a guidepost to a whole culture of English checks.
How-to-do-it: fabric patterns in the Burberry look bring peace to the room. They are relaxation fabrics with a touch of elegance - ennoble the country style or, conversely, give the necessary splash of naturalness to a raised interior.
