The 36-year-old star-scorer Iván Fandiño got caught in his cape during the bullfighting festival in the French town of Aire-sur-l'Adour, stumbled and fell. This opportunity took the bull (breeding Baltasar Ibán) to attack him. Fandiño's wife sat in the audience and witnessed the painful death of her husband.

Fandiño had just recently cut off another bull's ear during combat. Born in Basque in 2005, he became a Torero at the age of 24. He was considered a star among the Toreros, among other things in 2012 at a tournament alone against 6 bulls of different breeds fought. Already in other bullfights Fandiño has already twice seriously injured.

Many bullfighters die in bullfighting

It is the first bullfighting death in France since 97 (!) Years. Most recently died here in 1921, the Spanish bullfighter Isidoro Mari Fernando.

However, matadors often make their lives in bullfights: On July 9, 2016, Victor Barrio died in a bullfight, a month earlier the Mexican El Paña. The most tragic death in a bullfight was presumably that of the bullfighter José Cubero aka El Yiyo, in which at the age of only 21 a bull's horn pierced through his heart.

On YouTube, the cruel video has so far reached over half a million views ( CAUTION! The content of the video is disturbing! ):

Bullfighting: cultural heritage or brutal animal cruelty?

Bullfighting supporters are dismayed by the tragic death of Fandiño. Fandiño's fans mourned in their eyes "great fighters", the Spanish government spoke of a "sad news", the Spanish royal family mourns the "great personality of bullfighting." In Spain alone, traditional bullfighting has about six million followers. Here he is since 2015 as "intangible cultural heritage." The Spanish Court of Justice revoked the regional bullfighting ban in Catalonia only in October 2016.

Bullfighting opponents and animal rights activists are finally hoping for the Toreros' insight to put an end to bullfighting. Only in May, thousands of people demonstrated in the Spanish capital of Madrid against bullfighting.
