Just do it

The inventor of the Nike slogan revealed in an interview the true origin of the slogan "Just Do It". The story is macabre

Since the late 80s Nike advertises with the slogan " Just Do It ". Dan Wieden, the then head of advertising for Nike, has now revealed the origin of the cult legend.

Wieden was inspired by the last words of the double murderer GaryGilmore. He was sentenced to death after he shot two men in a robbery. Before executing the sentence, he said, "Let's Do It." Translated, it means, "Let's get it over with!"

In 1988, the advertising boss came across this story and was immediately fascinated. The "make it easy" message he thought was perfect. However, he changed the slogan slightly. The Nike management did not like the saying at first, but he convinced them.

" Just Do It " quickly became one of the best-known slogans of the century, and Nike's sales rose sharply. While Nike still recorded a turnover of 877 million dollars in 1988, they already earned $ 9.2 billion ten years later.
