Now Vapiano defends itself against fraud allegations

Prawns instead of expensive scampi. Exactly those landed with many Vapiano visitors on the plate.

Fraud on the customer, because scampi not only taste different, but are also much more expensive than shrimp. The scam was revealed by the NDR magazine Markt.

Now Vapiano is resisting the negative news coverage and has stated in a press release that the name on the menu has changed right after the NDR coverage. Now it is no longer scampi, but "Gambarettis". Derived from Gamba, the Spanish term for shrimp.

Vapiano explains with his own ignorance that the shrimp were previously wrongly named in the map: "We were like the majority of Germans and the majority of restaurants in Germany: The vernacular says shrimp is usually scampi."

Supposedly Vapiano himself was surprised that there were no scampis on the pizza "Scampi e Rucola". Hard to imagine, because at least in the purchasing the seafood will have the right name.

Vapiano is particularly proud of the fact that - notably after the NDR research - the name of the supposed Scampis itself was changed. The fact that customers were nevertheless deceived over the years before the change remains unmentioned in the press release. Vapiano likes to emphasize the quality of the shrimp, which are used instead of the scampi.

"VAPIANO only cooks products certified by GLOBALG.AP GLOBALG.AP is a private-sector organization that sets voluntary standards for the certification of products worldwide, " the press release said.

"Likewise, the purchasing of VAPIANO has convinced itself on site of the breeding and production conditions, " it continues. Too bad that nobody noticed on the spot that they are shrimp and not shrimp.
