Furniture goes mobile

New innovation from the Swedish furniture store. In the future, there should be furnishing items that - without cables - can charge a smartphone.

At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, IKEA International presented its latest innovations in furniture and technology, which could hardly be more exciting. As of April 15, 2015, various furnishings such as lamps and side tables are available in the range, which can easily charge a smartphone or tablet .

How it works? The various pieces of furniture in the new design collection with wireless charging station are equipped with the so-called Qi wireless standard technology and can thus charge Qi-wireless-capable devices, such as the Nexus 6 or LG G3. Clutter? Wrong! The integrated charging stations are visually recognizable by a circled plus. If you put the smartphone on it, it connects technically with the furniture and recharges.

David Wahl, designer at IKEA, explains the benefits of the new high-tech furniture: "We have developed clever wireless solutions to save the sight of many cables, and many devices can be charged at the same time as your home looks good wirelessly. " And let's face it: who does not fret about the charging cable-Wust the everywhere, and for any device that hangs from the socket ?!

You do not have a Qi-enabled smartphone yet? Do not be sad! Since not all mobile phones and tablets have this special technology at the moment, IKEA will also be offering charging cradles for different models.

In Europe and North America, new innovation furniture, which is otherwise very clean and straightforward, will be available from mid-April. For the UK, some of the prices have already been published. So there goes a piece of furniture from the new range at the equivalent of 41 euros going on.
