I must be able to smell a man!

Star interview: Rachel McAdams

Rachel Mcadams is considered Hollywood's greatest romantic - yet she likes to argue with her lover.

Rachel McAdams would not have been able to dress more appropriately, because the Canadian is also as conversational as playful, romantic as her outfit. Her skin is of impeccable pallor, a dreamy glow sparkles in her eyes. That's how you imagine a fairytale princess.

The main role in "Forever Love", a heartbreaking love drama with a happy ending (since 9 February in the cinema), seems like written on the body. Although the 33-year-old looks delicate and almost fragile in the encounter, she is a committed activist when it comes to questions about the environment - but never doggedly, but tangibly and with humor.

JOY: Ever since you starred in Ryan Ryan's "One Day Like You" role in 2004, you're considered Hollywood's romantic queen. Does this role also suit you privately?

Rachel McAdams: Absolutely! This is certainly due to my parents, who always showed their great affection for each other very openly. That's why I live exactly after their example!

What can we imagine?

My father always bought flowers for my mother - he still does today! But once he made her a very special gift. My two siblings and I had driven our mother to white heat again, but then my dad came home, and although he did not make much money as a truck driver, he gave her a diamond ring and said, "You had a tough day, but you are a very special mother. "I will never forget that romantic gesture.

Of course that sets high standards for your friend Michael Sheen. Is not he a bit intimidated by that?

No, where he likes to take an example from my father - especially in terms of diamond ring (laughs).

Have you ever met a perfect man?

No. But I think it's not bad if a man has mistakes. On the contrary, that makes a relationship even more interesting.

Which mistakes do you have no objections to?

I like it when my friend disagrees with discussions because he sees the world from a different angle. Arguing then argumentatively, one carries on, because you leave your Denkschublade.

What could you never accept with a man?

Sometimes you think that certain qualities are relationship-no-gos, but then someone encounters you, where, contrary to expectations, you find it okay. But for a partnership to work for me, I have to trust my lover and talk to him about everything. He should make me laugh and be my best friend.

The couple in "Forever Love" separates and, despite numerous stumbling blocks, is reunited by destiny. Do you believe in something like that?

In any case. If you meet a person who makes a strong positive impression, or you are directly on the same wavelength, there is an immediate connection. Then it is very likely that you will find each other again.

Have you ever experienced love at first sight?

It does not always have to be direct love, but I know it when it makes "click" between me and a person. But that can also have very simple reasons, even smells play a central role in me. A man smelled the same way as my father, of course that did not work. But the smell of the other should not be too strange. In such an encounter all kinds of crazy reactions take place in our bodies. As a woman you jump on stimuli that imply that the man is a good father - these are primal instincts (laughs).

Her role character can not remember her husband after an accident. Would you like to delete some experiences from your life?

No, because everything I have experienced - even the unpleasant things - make me the person I am now. And I love my life above all else!

What did you ever find unpleasant?

The math class. How many tears have I shed over these books. Frankly, that's a memory I'd like to forget (laughs).

How did you come to acting?

As a kid, I was an active figure skater, but I was always nervous with nervousness, my knees were literally shaking. That's why I would never have become a professional in it! So I visited a theater camp, then I wanted to become an actress.

Do you still suffer from this nervousness today?

Partly, but as an actress I can use them well. To relax, I take a break after every project. In these phases of rest I meditate and do yoga. The perfect mix of sport and spirituality!

Do you have a penchant for Far Eastern religions?

If I were religious, I would probably associate myself with Buddhism, but I am not. I need something tangible: I only adore Mother Earth. That's why I also love gardening and I'm ecologically inclined - I've been thinking green all my life!

What does that show?

I do not drive a car and have never owned one! My bike is quite enough for me in Toronto. Only in Los Angeles I take a car from time to time. I would like to travel back in time - to the point when there was no industry. How terrific it would be to be able to drink from rivers and streams everywhere.

Would you really feel comfortable there?

I do not know for how long, but I like to hang out in nature. The ideal holiday home for me is my lonely hut, which lies somewhere in a forest in Canada. I like cooking there.

What do you serve then?

My specialty is roast chicken. If you like that, you are cordially invited.

If I came to dinner, would that be a fateful encounter?

Every person who comes into my life is led by destiny to me - even you. And the best part is that a reunion is very likely for us: They just interview me again for my next movie (laughs)!
