"I never felt so naked!"

Star interview: Matthew McConaughey

Privately, he rarely wears a shirt. Even Matthew McConaughey, 42, was sweating when he had to strip for his new comedy.

JOY: You play the owner of a men's strip club in the lively comedy "Magic Mike" and even strip yourself on stage. Did this strip liner cost you a lot of effort?

Matthew McConaughey: And how! I was incredibly nervous and never felt so naked. Undressing in front of an audience and being as sexy as possible is awful. In addition, a thong is not exactly the safest garment dar. In a scene, a woman had to pull it and he tore immediately. Thank God I could still hold him, otherwise I would have been completely naked on stage. The whole crew was laughing with laughter!

How did you prepare for this role?

My five co-stars and I are all well-trained, but the certainty that their own naked butt will be seen on twelve-meter cinema screens, in front of each 300 women sitting, definitely increases the sports motivation (laughs). As soon as I agreed, I went to the gym twice a day. I practiced the strip and dance choreography and tortured myself with a protein diet with five small meals a day. Sometimes I cheated and drank a glass of red wine with my wife Camila in the evening (laughs).

What did your wife say about dropping your covers in the cinema?

Camila talked to me well. She was even on set when we shot my strip scene. Luckily I did not realize that until after she came to me and said: "Both thumbs up, you were great!" Had I known that she was watching, I would have been a lot more nervous.

In June, you and Camila gave the yes. Why did you decide to do so only after six years of relationship and two children?

Our son Levi got the ball rolling when he asked Camila, "Mom, why are Daddy, Vida and me McConaugheys and you not?" Camila and I was never important to a ring or a surname, but when I realized that a wedding was coming To give the children a different sense of community, I decided to ask Camila in a very classic way. On Christmas Eve last year, I put her an engagement ring under the Christmas tree. When she opened her Christmas present, she fell from the clouds - and I on her knees before her.

Who planned and prepared the wedding?

We both together. But Camila had the better ideas. She wanted to gather all family members and friends for a whole weekend, so we also have enough time together. "A village full of love" was our motto. Since we did not want anybody to disappear into any hotel after the party, we had a small tent city built in our home in Texas: 40 pieces! Each had even bath and air conditioning (laughs). The ceremony was on Saturday and we celebrated until the sun came up. Even then, we just went to bed not to get sunburned (laughs).

What moment was the most precious to you during these three-day celebrations?

Definitely the 45 seconds when I waited for my bride in front of the altar. I had to keep telling myself that this moment is real: Immediately my dream woman comes and I will give her the most valuable of all promises.

How compatible is a Texan and a Brazilian?

Obviously very, even if we sometimes tick very different. Brazilians, for example, love the chaos and, in contrast to Americans, have no time. I like being on time and that's why I often trick Camila by telling her we meet at five o'clock when I'm half past five. Then we come at the same time (laughs).

What do you admire most about your wife?

She has pride, honor and style. A bottle of wine for three dollars from a beach bar, she drinks with the same passion as a 150-euro drop in a fine restaurant. I also like how she respects her fellow human beings and how she is there for her family. No matter how much Camila has around her ears, she instinctively lets everything stand and lie when it comes to her family.

And vice versa: What do you think Camila likes about you?

I think she appreciates that I'm constantly pushing myself to improve my job and be a better father and husband.

Have you learned from your parents what you want to pass on to your children?

People who are loved at home are less afraid of failing in life. Whenever one of my two brothers or I did something - which often happened - my parents said, "We love you, but we do not like you right now." It's important to always be loved unconditionally - this feeling I also really want to teach my children.

Were your parents a good role model?

They got married three times. Three times each other. I hope it works for me the first time (laughs)!
