Always has a casual saying on his lips: Elyas M'Barek

I meet Elyas M'Barek on a sunny afternoon at Constantin Film in Munich.

The Austrian actor wears a slightly unbuttoned denim shirt, including a gray-and-blue striped shirt. He is very sympathetic in the conversation and I realize immediately that he is not a private macho as in "Turkish for beginners" - but he has a property in common with many of his characters: He always has a casual saying on his lips spontaneous and always joking.

JOY: Your last movie "Turkish for Beginners" was a huge success. How did you react when the comedy landed directly on # 1 on the cinema charts?

Elyas M'Barek: Of course I was very sad. We actually wanted an arthouse success and then just so many people storm into the cinema (laughs). Just kidding - of course, the entire film crew was super happy that the hard work paid off and the fans love the movie. We all felt like intoxicated! When I heard about the great result, we were on the road as part of our cinema tour through Germany. And because we had so much action, there was never a moment when I could really let this success sink and understand. However, it definitely helped that we had permanently triggered the good result.

In the movie, you play the cool macho who keeps chanting one spell after another all the time. How is this private with you?

Yes as well (laughs). No, I'm not a macho. Not at all. Even my character Cem is a kind of caricature, every role in "Turkish for Beginners" is very oversubscribed. And Cem does not just have this site. In essence, he is also totally romantic and a sensitive, sensitive person, but he can not stand because he thinks that it is uncool to allow feelings.

Watch the trailer of Elyas M'Barek's new movie "Heiter bis wolkig":

In the film, Elyas M'Barek is dragging out rows of women

With Max Riemelt you pull in the film through the bars and you try at first, with plump sayings like "I lost my number, can you give me yours?" To land with the girls and are not very successful. Have you ever caught a woman on the wrong foot?

Of course, I've always liked a woman and I do not like her. That's the way it should be (laughs). But I would never serve one of those 0/8/15 starters like in the movie.

Your movie character in "Heiter bis wolkig" works as a cook. Can you cook too?

Yes, but lately I'm doing it too rarely. I'm single and cooking alone is not so much fun. You always have to shop so much, the preparation takes forever, in the end you have cooked too much and eats alone anyway. But I like to cook for a woman. It's a great idea to cook together on a date!

In the movie, your best friend lies to his new girlfriend Marie and she separates when she finds out that he played something to her. What is a relationship -No-Go for you, a reason for separation?

To lie to the partner or to go foreign.

You often play Turkish roles (for example, in "Turkish for Beginners", "Off-Road", "Cheerful to Cloudy"), even though you are actually Austrian and have Tunisian roots. Where does it come from?

I can see that I have a migrant background, so I often play Turkish roles. I like to do that as long as the parts are varied and I enjoy working. Most of the time it does not matter much in the story either, so in most strips my movie character might as well be called "Stefan" - except maybe for "Turkish for Beginners" (laughs).

Do you speak Turkish?

No. Not at all. Thus, we could give my character in the movie sometimes an Arabic name or an Italian. That's a good idea! I'll suggest that in the next movie (laughs).

Your next film project is the movie adaptation of Noah Gordon's historical novel "The Medicus". Can you tell us about the shooting?

At the end of June I had my first day of shooting near Leipzig. We also film in Cologne, briefly in Berlin and then in Morocco. "The Medicus" is a very big international production, it is also the first time for me to make a film in English. The set alone was gigantic - very exciting and elaborate. Already pretty hard.

You have over 150, 000 fans on Facebook alone. Do people often talk to you on the street?

Yes, but always very friendly. I am often asked for pictures and I like to do that too. It has also happened to me twice before that girls have followed me on the way home to find out where I live. They thought I did not realize that. In that case, I just went a little detour (laughs).

What's the craziest thing a fan ever did?

Two girls then actually found out where I live. They then rang my bell and were already halfway in my apartment. I opened the door and asked what they wanted. The two replied that they wanted to get to know me. I asked them how they knew where I live and they said they had been watching me. In the situation I said: "Girls, sorry, but that's not possible, you have to go very fast." But then they have understood.

You twitter regularly and are active on Facebook. Could you also imagine to data online?

No, because I think people are always selling themselves too well on the internet. I would like to see the woman live first. I think that one is disappointed in the personal meeting mostly because the uploaded photos in the dating profile do not correspond to reality.
