The Hoverboard from "Back to the Future" becomes real with Hendo! Soon everyone like Marty McFly could float around the world on a flying skateboard!
It sounds like the sequel to the sci-fi trilogy "Back to the Future" when the couple introduces Henderson's new product. Fans who have hoped for a remake, but must be disappointed. Instead, they can look forward to an invention in reality: the flying skateboard is born!
With the Hendo Hoverboard we have arrived in the future and thus the world of Marty McFly. Engineers Jill Avery Henderson and Greg Henderson present the first floating skateboard. For this they have made use of the functionality of a magnetic field.
Four magnets on the underside of the skateboard ensure that the hoverboard can fly up to three centimeters above the ground. This only works on a conductive basis. Thus, the Hendo hoverboard can float only on metal surfaces, in which two magnetic fields repel each other and lift the board at a dizzy height.
The Hendersons do not want to reveal the exact technique - that remains a mystery. One thing is certain: the skateboard is flying . The battery lasts up to seven minutes, enough to make "Back to the Future" fans happy. There is plenty of that: The Hendersons project was financed by the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.
There, the couple present their personal hoverboard. For the realization, they needed $ 250, 000, and at the end of the project the sum had doubled. Nevertheless, it was mainly small donations, which were collected by many fans. The high price of $ 10, 000 for your own flying skateboard is only a few people willing to pay.
But the Hendersons keep thinking. In their minds, they have already spun their next project: large magnetic fields could, for example, protect entire houses from earthquakes by lifting them off the earth for a few minutes in the event of a crisis.
