Wedding of King Jigme Khesar

A coveted royal bachelor less

Tomorrow, in Bhutan's capital, Thimphu, a big celebration will be celebrated with the wedding of King Jigme Khesar (31) and his subject, the beautiful Jetsun Pema (21). The wedding ceremonies themselves took place this Wednesday and Thursday.

The fact that many of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck had never heard before, the reason that Bhutan (700, 000 inhabitants) is far away - between India and China - that it is barely developed touristy and that the technical achievements have hardly found there so far to have. But the people in Bhutan should be happier than elsewhere, it is said, at least, and it should be known that stories are told from far-eastern monarchies, which are fairy tales rather than reality. But one is not a fairy tale: King Jigme Khesar is one downright "outrageous" handsome man and was therefore in the whole of Asia an idol of many willing to marry ladies. He was regarded there as the most desirable bachelor par excellence. I myself saw King Jigme Khesar on one of his many visits to Thailand when he was crown prince. The royal guesthouse where he stayed and every place he looked at in Bangkok was densely surrounded by girls between the ages of 13 and 18, who fiercely behaved. They cheered and shrieked as if (which would have been possible then) the King of Pop would dance the moonwalk every moment before them. Whether the young king will lose his popularity after his marriage - he too will have to endure a heir to the throne - will become apparent when he introduces his beautiful wife to the majesties in Thailand, Japan and Cambodia.
