One who leads by example: student Dirk Wulf (23) from Greifswald proved his moral courage and saves his neighbor from being raped!
Nightmare rape. Almost 8, 000 women are raped every year in Germany. The dark figure is much higher (reported at a glance). Experts say that many actions could have been prevented by valiant intervention. But many are looking away - only Dirk Wulf (23) came to the rescue of a woman!
It is the 17th of January this year in Greifswald. "I sat in my apartment with friends and celebrated, " remembers Dirk. "Around 10 pm a man rioted in the stairwell. He told me his name and I could calm him down. "
At two o'clock in the morning, all the guests are gone when he suddenly hears the cry for help from a woman. "I ran after the screams into the basement, " says the budding history and geography teacher.
Dirk sees the man from the stairwell push his 25-year-old neighbor to the ground and choke. "I yelled at him, what should that be. Then he got up, went up to me and choked me. "
After a short scuffle, he can push the unknown into a corner and hold on tight. "My luck was that I knew him from the stairwell. I used it and he listened to me, "says Dirk.
The scramble in the cellar is not unheard of by other neighbors - they call the police. Dirk is visibly relieved when the officials arrive. "In retrospect, it turned out that the man was already convicted of such and other crimes - now he is back in custody."
Thanks for his courageous intervention, he receives from all sides: His neighbor and her family are happy that everything went so smoothly. In the university he is congratulated by his fellow students, friends pat him on the back, and in the street the Greifswalds speak to him about his heroic deed. "Civil courage is important, " he says modestly. "Everyone has to pay a little attention to each other."
Was not he afraid? "No, I just acted - and would do it again and again."
