1. Travel in the off season

How about when you arrive when the others have left? Maybe in October? Because you can travel much cheaper than the season, you save about 25 percent of the travel price. In addition, the beaches, hotels and restaurants are not that crowded.

2. Book flight: The time counts

When are vacation flights actually the cheapest? On the other hand, book as early as possible on a lump-sum vacation and save up to 30 per cent.

3. Book a rental car at home

The earlier the rental car is booked, the cheaper you drive. Rule of thumb: If you book the car two, better three weeks before travel, the car is usually cheaper by half.

You need the car for four days, but there are only offers for one, three or five days? Choose five days and return earlier. This is usually cheaper than booking three and one day.

4. Book online accommodation

More and more hotels sell travel vouchers via eBay. So you can z. For example, spend two days in a 3-star hotel in the Black Forest from about 64 euros for two.

5. Book separately

6th train instead of plane

Within Europe, the train is usually much cheaper than the plane. This shows a study of the ecological traffic club, which is based on around 400 price comparisons. The result: With 93 percent of all trips you can save by train. On average, the price for the train is only about half of the fare, on the route Cologne-Amsterdam even only a quarter. The shorter the booking, the better the service will fare.

7. Remote bus instead of train

8. Great discounts for seniors

Anyone over the age of 55 has a good chance of getting a discounted travel price. Many providers offer senior discounts up to 15 percent. That may well be worthwhile for the holiday fund.

9. Animals on vacation

If you are traveling without your pet and nobody can take care of you, you do not have to pay for a pet board: The Animal Protection Association arranges exchange partners who look after your four-legged friend while you are away. 10. Pay for car in advance

If you pay in advance, you can benefit from prepaid rates (up to 10% and more). Automobile Club members also receive a 10% discount on the best free daily rate at Europcar.

11. Weigh the suitcase already at home

Your luggage may weigh a maximum of 20 to 23 kg, depending on the airline. To save high fees (about 10 Euro / kg) for excess baggage at the airport, check the weight at home.

12. From the airport to the city

If you have a lot of luggage, you can enjoy a taxi from the airport to the city. But better before, how far out of the airport. From Berlin-Tegel, the tour to the city center costs around 20 euros, but the distance from Munich Airport to the city center costs between 50 and 70 euros. Here you can save a lot of money by train.

13. Buy tourist ticket

14. Organize day trips locally

If you want to do guided walks, bike rides or bus excursions, book them locally. Corresponding provider addresses are available at the hotel reception or in the tourist office. This will save you the cost of the tour operator at home.

15. Pay on holiday with a card

In the euro zone, paying by check card (debit card) is free, outside one to two percent of sales are due. Anyone who draws money at the machine with the giro card usually pays one percent abroad or at least 3.50 euros. This is often cheaper than with the credit card.

If you check in late or ask nicely at the reception, you can negotiate a discount. For example, economy rooms are up to 30% cheaper next to the elevator.

20. Check rental car

To avoid liability for damage you have not caused: Before starting your journey, look closely at the vehicle and record any potential damage on photos.

21. On vacation to the pharmacy

In many holiday countries, there are over-the-counter painkillers such as aspirin or ibuprofen for a ridiculous price. For example, in Turkey, a pack costs only about 60 cents. Even if some medicines are offered in the supermarket, they should be bought in pharmacies. Only here you can be sure that the funds have been stored properly.
