Harmony is the keyword! Bring your body and soul into harmony with the five elements of Chinese cuisine and delicious recipes that will give you energy for the whole day.

Body and soul in harmony

Harmony is the focus of Chinese thought. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), two opposing forces that determine everything in life are assumed: yin and yang and the five elements.

Yin and Yang: Only when they are in equilibrium does life energy flow through the body and the ideal weight settles down.

Five elements: Each of the five seasons of the year is symbolized by a specific element: spring corresponds to wood, summer to fire, late summer to earth, autumn to metal and winter to water. These elements are associated with the flavors sour, bitter, sweet, spicy and salty. Now bitter!

In the summer especially bitter foods from the fire element should be on the menu. If you often feel powerless and tired, try yang-stressed foods like dark chocolate or nuts.

Does the heat bother you? Then cool yin food like artichoke, beetroot or arugula is ideal.

Neutral foods such as rice and legumes should form the basis of your diet because they balance the flow of energy and provide balance.

Whether you need Yin or Yang elements, your body shows you on its own. On some days you feel more like hot, cold, sweet or sour food - give in to the need.

Tip: Chinese swear by the fermented oolong tea. Studies have shown that five to six cups a day reduce fat intake in the gut and increase fat burning by 80 calories.
