Facebook wants to know how much you take off!

Facebook wants its users to now share their weight loss with the network community and document it with photos. We ask ourselves: what is this new feature supposed to do?

Facebook has always given its users the opportunity to highlight special moments in their lives. Whether it's a new relationship or a wedding, the baby's birth or a great holiday - lately more questionable new features have been added to these so-called "life events".

For example, Facebook has recently found the item " weight loss ".

Means: From now on, we can each colleague, distant cousin or former classmate, just the people with whom we are friends on Facebook, tell how many kilos we have slimmed lately. I BEG YOUR PARDON?

The "Weight Loss" tab can be found under "Health & Wellness" in Life Events - between "Organ Donor", "Bone Fracture", or "Braces Removal".

In addition to the fields "Amount", "Location" or "History", there is also the option to upload the appropriate photo proof.

Sure, for people who have managed to lose tens of pounds over the last few months, the new weight loss feature can be a true booster of self-esteem. It stays on the ball, motivates itself. But it's hard to imagine what effect such a feature has on Facebook users with eating disorders .

For many people, the topic of weight remains tricky and putting it so concrete in the timelines of the Facebook community leaves a bitter aftertaste. We are definitely against such self-confidence traps in the social web!
