They love their pet, of course, they want to spoil it. But which food is best and what is really healthy for your animal?

Stiftung Warentest has tested dog and cat food. We call the test winners and say what you should look for when dieting your favorite.
A good 5.3 million dogs and almost 8 million cats live in German households. No wonder that the food supply for pets is hard to overlook. Moist or dry food? Big or small pack? From discounters or expensive branded goods? Important: the food must be balanced so that your animal gets all the important nutrients. Protein, amino acids, fat, minerals, vitamins and low carbs.
Stiftung Warentest has checked which foods are optimally composed (see feed check, below). But beware of the information on the packaging: often the recommended daily rations are too lush and your four-legged friend could bibble! And: for juveniles, adult animals or seniors each has a different portion and composition recommendation. And even an animal that moves a lot, needs a different feed recommendation, as a cozy contemporary. Have your pet checked by the veterinarian. He can also clarify with blood and urine tests, whether your animal has diseases or deficiencies to which the diet must be adjusted. But one thing is for everyone: daily fresh water please do not forget.Cats Tip: In grass are few - but valuable for cats - fiber.
