Princess Charlène (34) shows the flag.

She wants to become a kind of figurehead for the sport - not only in Monaco, but worldwide.

The first step has been taken: Monacos Landesmutter has founded a sports foundation, the Princess Charlène of Monaco Foundation.

It now has a legally secured base and, as it were, can collect donations in official missions, start projects and offensively represent its goals to the outside world.

At the same time, Princess Charlène, as president of her sports foundation, is not alone in the far-flung field; after all, she has a man by her side, who also proves herself a support here.

Albert (54) serves as Vice-President, an office the Prince is known to have adopted and adds weight to the Foundation.

The goals of the foundation are quickly explained: The sport should be promoted in general, but especially for children and especially water sports.

It considers Charlène blatantly important that every child gets the chance to learn to swim, a kind of challenge to "wet death".

Furthermore, young talents should be supported - through scholarships or special courses.

Every year the foundation wants to set priorities. 2013 will focus on rugby, they say.
