Soft drinks are sugary and popular soft drinks. In 2010, the per capita consumption of soft drinks such as cola was 92.7 liters. Now Cola is suspected to favor the onset of depression . As for what you can read here.

Origin of the coke

In the 1880s, the pharmacist John Stith Pemberton originally wanted to brew an elixir that awakens the spirits of life. So cola should be a liquid remedy for fatigue, headaches and depression . The ingredients of the time: wine, cola nuts, damiana and an extract of the leaves of the coca plant. The syrup thus prepared was then mixed with soda and drunk. The brown brew was then considered a medicine and not as a soft drink, soft drinks did not exist at the time.

Studies are related to cola and depression

Researchers recorded the drinking preferences of more than 260, 000 people in 1995 and 1996 and asked them about their mental health ten years later. The interviews revealed that more than 11, 000 study participants had developed depression . People who consumed more than four glasses of soft drinks a day had a higher risk of developing depression than those who did not drink cola. The probability for this was 30 percent. For those who preferred the light variant, the risk of disease was even higher.

Connection so far unclear

Experts in the study conclude that reducing consumption of sweetened beverages such as soft drinks and cola or replacing them with, for example, unsweetened coffee may lower the risk of depression . Drinking four cups of coffee a day can reduce the likelihood of depression by ten percent. However, the study does not provide any proof for this.
